What type of status will suit you best?
Each Maltese status is designed for a different type of applicant. The Malta Global Residence Programme is often chosen by investors who want to become Maltese tax residents and benefit from a special tax regime with the lowest entry costs.
The Malta Permanent Residence Programme suits investors who want a lifelong status for the whole family without the obligation to live in Malta, while the Nomad Residence Permit is aimed at remote workers and freelancers who wish to relocate to Malta.
Citizenship by naturalisation for exceptional merit is intended for individuals whose achievements or planned contribution bring significant benefit to Malta. Each request is assessed individually.

How we work
We guide our clients through every stage of the journey, from the first complimentary consultation to receiving the desired status, and continue to support them long after approval.
1
Understand your goals
During a 20 to 30-minute call or meeting at our office, we take the time to understand your goals, family circumstances, timelines, and any potential limitations. Based on this, we outline the most suitable residence options.

2
Check compliance early
An AML Compliance Officer conducts an initial risk screening and prepares a tailored document checklist to identify any potential issues at an early stage. If the pre-check is successful, we agree on the residency type and sign an agreement. If risks are identified, we advise on alternative solutions.

Malta long- and short-stay visas and residence permits: all you need to know
Foreigners visiting Malta may need a visa to stay, either short-term or long-term. Short-term visas allow stays of up to 90 days, while long-term visas let you stay for an extended period. Whether a visa is needed depends on the visitor’s citizenship and the purpose of travel. This article will help you determine which visa best suits your needs and explain how to obtain it.

Citizenship
Maltese Citizenship by Naturalisation in 2026: Updated Requirements & Process
A Maltese passport can offer many advantages to its holders, such as a high quality of life, favourable business conditions, and the opportunity to travel visa-free to more than 180 countries. Naturalisation is one of the ways to obtain a passport. In this article, we gathered detailed information on the conditions and terms of obtaining Malta citizenship by naturalisation.

Citizenship
Malta Citizenship by Birth or Descent: Updated Guide for 2026
Malta citizenship by birth can be obtained by persons with at least one Maltese parent. The place of birth is unimportant: the person can be born both in and outside Malta and still get a Maltese passport. The rules have changed several times since Malta gained independence in 1964. In this article, we explain who can obtain Maltese citizenship by birth or descent and how the rules differ depending on the date and place of birth.

Citizenship
Malta Citizenship by Marriage: Guide on Getting a Maltese Nationality for Spouse
Foreign spouses of Maltese citizens may obtain Malta citizenship by registration if the couple has been married for at least 5 years. Formerly, anyone who married a Maltese national could immediately apply for citizenship. However, there are strict rules for foreign spouses now.

Citizenship
Maltese Citizenship by Registration in 2026: Updated Requirements & Process
According to the Maltese Citizenship Act, Malta citizenship can be obtained by persons with close ties to the country. That includes a spouse, a widow or widower, or a descendant of a Maltese citizen. If a person is a former Maltese citizen, they can also apply for citizenship. In this article, we break down Malta citizenship by registration: who, how and in what time one can obtain it.

Frequently asked questions
What does working with a government-licensed agent mean for me?
It means your application is prepared and submitted by an authorised adviser who operates under official legal requirements. This gives you a structured process, compliant document handling, clear communication with the authorities, and a stronger foundation for a successful outcome.
In many jurisdictions, certain citizenship and residence applications can only be submitted through licensed agents. Where this applies, direct applications are not accepted.
Is a licence required to work with Maltese programmes?
Yes. Applications under the Malta Permanent Residence Programme and the Malta Global Residence Programme can only be submitted through a licensed agent; investors cannot apply by themselves. Immigrant Invest has passed government Due Diligence and holds a licence, № RES-IMIN, which allows us to act on the investor’s behalf.
For you, this means your documents are prepared correctly, communication with the Maltese authorities is handled on your behalf, and the process is clearer and more predictable from the start.
What happens during the compliance pre-check?
During the compliance pre-check, an AML Compliance Officer reviews the key details of your case, including your identity, possible name matches, previous refusals, and the general source of your wealth.
You then receive a personalised document checklist and clear early guidance on any potential risk areas, allowing us to resolve issues before the application is submitted.
Which documents do clients usually prepare first?
Typically, the list of documents includes:
- valid passport;
- marriage certificate;
- police check certificate;
- bank statement;
- employment or corporate document;
- evidence of source of funds, such as contracts, sale proceeds, dividends.
The exact list depends on the chosen status. In any case, we also specify format, certification, and sworn translations where required.
How long does the process of obtaining residency or citizenship take?
Timelines vary by type of Maltese status:
- a residence permit under the Global Residence Programme takes at least 3 months;
- permanent residence under the Malta Permanent Residence Programme takes 6 months or more;
- the Nomad Residence Permit takes at least 2 months.
Citizenship by naturalisation for exceptional merit has no fixed timeline: each request is assessed individually by the Maltese authorities.
Will there be an interview or requests for further information?
Some Maltese programmes include an interview. For example, Global Residence Programme applicants have a short remote interview with the Director of the Malta Revenue Department. Migration authorities can also request further information if documents leave gaps.
To minimise this risk, we prepare your application thoroughly from the start, review the file for potential weak points, and make every effort to anticipate the authorities’ questions before submission.
How is my data protected?
We protect your personal and financial information through strict internal access rules, encrypted storage and transfer, confidentiality agreements with trusted partners, and a documented process for handling originals and certified copies.
We also work only with traceable client funds and do not use unclear or artificial “financial options”. This helps keep your case transparent, compliant, and properly documented from the start.
